Erode is well known for Powerloom Textile Industries and cultivation of Turmeric in agriculture. Kangayam Bulls and Uthukuli butter are famous in Tamilnadu State. The Textile notable products such as Towels, Bed sheets and Lungi are exported to the foreign countries. The pilgrimage centres Bannari Amman Temple at Bannari and Sangameswarar Temple at the confluence of rivers Bhavani and Cauvery located at Bhavani have spiritual importance in this district. Bhavanisagar dam attracts tourist people and Lower Bhavani Project plays major role in the Irrigation sector. The social reformer Mr.E.V.Ramasamy called ' Thanthai Periyar' and the great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujam are the sons of this soil.
